The holiday season is here and lots of tourists are coming to visit Porto. Are you one of them? If so, we got your back! The city will host a lot of events related to the Holiday season: exhibitions, street fairs and markets, concerts, workshops… The program will start on December 1st up until January 7th. Here are a few tips on what’s happening on this special time of the year in Porto :)
On December 1st, the Christmas tree, located at Aliados Avenue, is going to light up! Be there at 5:30 pm to see the lights, a firework show and a free music concert! Great to start the season, right?
Dance performances will also happen in a stage near the tree. If you want to see Classical Ballet, the dates are: December 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14 and 29, at 5:30 pm. If you are more into Contemporary Dance, go there on December 18, 19, 21, also at 5:30 pm. Music concerts are also happening almost everyday! On December 2, 3, 9, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, and 23, you will be able to hear Jazz, Classical music, word music and chorus, completely free of charge! Always around 5:30 and 6 pm.
And there’s more! If you like contemporary circus, the stage near the Christmas tree will host differente performances on the following dates: December 26, 27, 28 and 29, at 6 pm. Two ice-skating rings will also inaugurate on that day. They are located at Praça de D. João, in front of Rivoli Theather, and at Rotunda da Boavista, close to Casa da Música. Great attractions for the little ones!
Street fairs and markets are also all around town. The best opportunities to find the perfect Porto souvenir! The first one to happen is the Christmas Wine Experience, at the Yeatman Hotel. If you are more into contemporary design, check Mercado de Natal at District where the coolest Portuguese bands will be. Xmas Market, at Alameda Shop & Spot, is also a great option. If you like vintage and second-hand gifts, then Flea Market at Silo Auto and Christmas Antique Fair at Armazém are the places for you!
And finally, New Year’s Eve! What a special occasion, and Porto has a lot to offer! The party warm-up will start on the 30th, with a big concert at Aliados Avenue. HMB, a Portuguese band, will play its biggest hits and start the countdown to 2018. On the 31st, a classical music concert will start the celebrations at 4pm. At night, the Portuguese singer Aurea will play her cool music until the big firework show, scheduled to 00:00! After the celebration, Amor Electro will continue the show, followed by Dj Nuno Luz. Djs will also be playing on stages on Praça dos Poveiros and Largo do Amor de Perdição (near the Portuguese Photography Center).
