Also known as Liberal Wars and War of the Two Brothers, the Portuguese Civil War was a battle between progressive constitutionalists and authoritarian absolutists over royal succession. After the death of King João VI, his two sons Pedro (Emperor of Brazil) and Miguel started a fight that last from 1828 to 1834.
Porto was one of the most important battlefields of this war! The city was under a siege for one year (1832-33. Back them, the liberal troops and the locals of Porto were resisting and bravely fighting together. Up until today, it is still possible to find evidences of those battles spread in Porto’s streets!
